School has started but there is still some fun to be had. Think Penn-Mar, the Jefferson County Fair and Augustober Fest which actually has some family friendly events! Not to mention our annual family favorite Spud Fest where a horse drawn plow uncovers potatoes at the Ag center. It is definitely a super messy, super fun time to watch the kids scramble behind in search of the dirty spuds! Here’s the line-up for this weekend and a few happenings for next week too. Enjoy!
Saturday, Aug. 21
8am Simple Transport
German air-cooled automobiles and custom, classic and vintage BMX bicycle show. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hagerstown Fairgrounds Park, off Cannon Avenue. For autos entering the show, entry fee is $10 per vehicle; free show admission for Type 3s and Type 34 Ghias; $3 per bicycle. Admission costs $2 for spectators; free for ages 12 and younger. 8:30 am Horse show — hunters

9am Summer train show
Hagerstown Railroad Museum at City Park and the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum will host a summer train show in Williamsport. A chance for kids of all ages to learn about the history and rules of some of the popular pastimes of Western Maryland frontier families. 1pm Ballet open house
The open house will feature registration for fall ballet classes, an orientation to the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre and a special performance by CBT’s August ballet workshop dancers. 11am Spud Fest
Potatoes planted in the spring will be harvested by horse-drawn plow beginning at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to children, in age groups, for finding the largest and smallest potatoes. There will be an antique tractor show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., demonstrations of a stone crusher and corn sheller. Activities include barrel rides and hay rides, potato sack race, spoon relay. 11 a.m. Washington County Rural Heritage Museum, 7313 Sharpsburg Pike, seven miles south of Hagerstown.
